The Communion Service is a commemoration and celebration of the Passover Lamb that gave His life that man may once again, walk in the presence of God in peace and love.
The in the act of Baptism by immersion, a person publically vows that they are accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour and will seek to grow in the Grace of God by faith. Daily surrender to God and seek to reflect the character of God and thus glorify Him on this earth with the intention to lead other people to seek God.
Baptism is a symbol of death to self, a washing away of the record of past sins, and rising out of the water in newness of life. To live a life dedicated to God and to be a new creature going forward until the coming of the Lord to bring His captives home with him for eternity.
The communion service is a repeating event that symbolically washes of the sins that we have committed since our baptism or since the last Communion Service. Before Communion a person should ask God what needs to be made right in their life and seek forgiveness from other or however God leads you.
Know that you have no offence towards God and no sins to be repented of gives you a sence of confidence to approach God’s throne boldly in the name of Jesus.
The service is essentially the same as a regular Sabbath service with the exception of a footwashing service and the partaking of the bread and unfermented fruit of the vine.
We practice an open Communion, which means anyone can partake. You do not need to be a member of the Seventh-day Adventist church. It is your choice to partake in this memorial of the Passover Lamb.
The footwashing is before the emblems to prepare our hearts to be those of servants. There are three groups to go to; men, women, and families.
After the footwashing we return to the sanctuary for the bread and fruit of the vine.
The bread is unleavened in keeping with the symbolism that sin is not part of the nourishment that gives us spiritual strength. The fruit of the vine also not being fermented as a symbol of nourishment, the blood that was shed in paying the penalty for sin and offering man the forgiveness and power to overcome sin in their life.
The footwashing service is before the taking of the emblems and is designed to bring our minds into an attitude of service. During the Last Supper it was the Lord of glory that gird Himself with a towel to wash the feet of His disciples.
They were all gathered but there was no servant to wash their feet and none of the disciples would stoop to take on the role of a servant. This is a crucial characteristic of the Christian’s character, to serve others from a sense of gratitude to God for His love towards us.
So we choose to wash the feet of another person. There are basins, towels, and water for this service.
Shoes and socks are typically removed for men and women leave their stockings on.
