The Church of Pergamos – Revelation 2:12–17

In Revelation 2:12–17, Christ sends a message to the Church of Pergamos — a church known for holding fast to His name, yet warned against compromise with false teachings. Pergamos is often called “the compromising church” among the seven churches of Revelation.

What Was Pergamos?

Pergamos was a city filled with idolatry and pagan worship, even called the place “where Satan’s throne is.” The believers there lived in the midst of spiritual darkness, yet Jesus commended them for remaining true to His name.

The Warning Against Compromise

The church was also rebuked for allowing false doctrines, such as the teachings of Balaam and the Nicolaitans. This represents the danger of blending truth with error — a lesson for the church in every generation.

Christ’s Promise to the Faithful

To those who overcome, Jesus promises the hidden manna and a white stone with a new name written on it. These symbols point to the reward of eternal life, a personal relationship with Christ, and the assurance of victory for the faithful.

Why This Message Matters Today

The message to Pergamos is not just history — it is a prophetic warning for God’s people living in the last days. The seven churches of Revelation represent different periods of church history, and Pergamos reflects a time when compromise crept into Christianity. As Seventh-day Adventists, we are reminded to stay faithful to God’s Word, reject error, and cling to Christ alone.

🙏 We invite you to join us at Fannin Seventh-day Adventist Church as we continue studying the seven churches of Revelation. May we all remain steadfast, refusing compromise, and holding firmly to the promises of Christ.
